Managing the behavior of multiple students on
a school bus is not easy. While it is vital to train drivers how to
drive safely , it's equally
important to teach them how to manage student behavior and what
to do if students act out inappropriately. Some of the topics
covered are:
How to promote positive student relationships and school bus environment.
Understanding student behavior
and developing verbal and non-verbal skills to defuse potential
discipline issues.
Learn strategies to cope
with the enabling student and parent.
Recognizing potentially dangerous or violent
situations, managing unruly students, and how to respond to
them.
Developing partnerships with school
administrators to gain support, get a quick turn around on
discipline referrals, get feedback on IEP students, have input on driver needs and increase
the communication/dialogue process.
"He really helped us with our two biggest problems -
behavior and the lack of respect." Anna
"He provided a critical link between our concerns and getting
better support from administrators." Beth
"I want to thank you for taking the time
to meet with our transportation team. The drivers and bus aides
really walked away with a lot of valuable information they are
enthused about trying. Even my most experienced drivers got some
new ideas and this is what they needed. Your approach, with your
experience and knowledge, was well received and that's not
always easy to do with this group. I was really pleased with the
attitude that my people had when the meeting was over. Again,
thank you!." A.D., Transportation Supervisor
