FOR
PARENTS:
12 TIPS IN DOING YOUR HOMEWORK FOR PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
1.
Ask your
child how school is going. Compare his or her views with the
teacher's evaluation.
2.
Write down
questions in advance - this helps keep you on tract.
3.
Communicate
the goals and expectations you have for your child.
4.
Ask
questions if you don't understand something.
5.
Find out
what you can do as a parent to help your child do well in school.
6.
Be on time
and be curious of other parents waiting. If more time is needed,
make an appointment for another time.
7.
Be
positive. Approach the conference with a cooperative attitude.
8.
Stay
informed about your child's school work and talk to him or her about it.
9.
Ask for
coaching tips on discipline matters and empowering your child to perform
better academically.
10.
Review
important conference items with your child and involve them in
developing strategies to achieve the expectations.
11.
Never talk
negatively about anything the teacher said or what's being done in the
classroom in front of your child. If you have concerns, take them
back to the teacher.
12.
Always
stress the importance of getting a good education. Attendance at
Parent/Teacher Conferences tells your child he and his performance in
school are important.
