Basic Home Reference Library
If you'd like your child to thrive in school, you need to supply him with the basic reference books at home. How else will he be able to write reports on Eleanor Roosevelt or use spelling words in sentences? Check our list to make sure you have a properly stocked library of dictionaries, atlases, encyclopedias and more--whether in good, old-fashioned book form or on CD-ROM.
Children's Dictionary
Thesaurus
Atlas
Almanac
Encyclopedia (set of ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITTANICA or a basic one-volume, with a good index)
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC
Good children's magazine: COBBLESTONE (history), FACES (world cultures), KIDS DISCOVER (science; call 800-825-2821 for subscription)

If you have a CD-ROM:
ENCARTA Encyclopedia
Microsoft BOOKSHELF (includes dictionary, thesaurus, book of quotations, encyclopedia, atlas, chronology and almanac)
