FOR
PARENTS:
12 TIPS IN DOING YOUR HOMEWORK FOR
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
- Ask your child how school is going. Compare his or
her views with the teacher's
evaluation.
-
Write down questions in advance - this helps keep you
on tract.
- Communicate the
goals and expectations you have for your
child.
- Ask questions if you don't
understand something.
- Find out what you can do as a parent
to help your child do well in school.
- Be on time and be curious of other
parents waiting. If more time is
needed, make an
appointment for another time.
- Be positive. Approach the conference with a
cooperative attitude.
- Stay informed about your child's school work and
talk to him or her about it.
- Ask for coaching tips on discipline matters and
empowering your child to perform
better academically.
- Review important conference items with your child
and involve them in developing
strategies to achieve the expectations.
- Never talk negatively about anything the teacher
said or what's being done in the
classroom in front of your child. If you have
concerns, take them back to the teacher.
- Always stress the importance of getting a good
education. Attendance at
Parent/Teacher
Conferences tells your child he and his performance in
school are important.
