1. Be
sure your child's costume is age appropriate. Too many
buttons and strings on baby's or toddler's costumes may
present a choking hazard. Avoid any long tails or material
hanging off costumes that may cause a child to trip or catch
on fire if it gets too close to a lighted pumpkin.
2.
Remain highly visible. Carry a flashlight or glow stick, or
wear reflective tape.
3.
Trick-or-treat only in the neighborhood with which you are
familiar, and don't go out alone.
4.
Make sure your costume falls no lower than your ankles to
avoid tripping and falling.
5.
Use crosswalks. Look both ways when crossing the street and
do not cross from behind parked cars.
6.
Carry a slip of paper with your name, address and phone
number in case you get separated from your group.
7.
Discuss with your parents what time you will be home.
8.
Never go into
strangers' homes.
9.
Dispose of any candy with loose wrappers — “When in doubt,
throw it out!”
