wanted the turkey.)
The bald eagle became the National
emblem in 1782 when the great seal of the United
States was adopted.
Bald eagles have few natural enemies & live only in North America.
Bald eagles get their white head & tail feathers about 4-5 years of
age.
The female bald eagle is
35 to 37 inches, slightly larger than the male.
Wingspan ranges from 72 to
90 inches.
Bald
eagles can fly to an altitude of 10,000 feet. During
level flight, they can achieve speeds of about 30 to
35 mph.
Bald eagles have 7,000
feathers.
All eagles are renowned
for their excellent eyesight.
The only other kind of eagle in North America is the golden eagle.
Bald eagles mate for life, but if one dies, the survivor will
accept a new mate.
It is a felony to shoot an eagle.
